From Bari we crossed the italian boot to the west side where we want to go along the
Amalfi coast up to Rome.
Its was quite warm but there where thick rainclouds in the sky and it was just a
question of time before we had to pull out the monkey suit. When the rain finally started we stopped for lunchbreak in a lovley little italian town.we went into the Trattoria and had a fancy
dinner. It was delicious but much more fancy and expensive than a little sideroad lunchbreak was supposed to be. Since we entered Turkey we could experience a drastic price increase... Before we
where always under our daily budget, but now we are over everyday.. No 5 Euro dinners or 1 Euro Beers anymore... But nobody should save money on food and one of the best things in italy is of
course the food - so we indulged in a huge assortment of antipasti and pasta and waited out the rain - at least we hoped so... But when we stumbled out of the ristorante the rain still poured
down in all its glory - monkeysuit on and of we go.
So we drove in on and off rain to Salerno on the coast where we checked into a cheap
military style hostel.
The whole journey got a little easier now as chris speaks italian and therefore our
communication with the locals is not just a mix of signlanguage and smiles as it was in most countries before.. The italians we met on the road where very friendly and excited about our trip. Now
that we are so close to home everybody thinks we just tour around italy and where stupid enough to go in winter... But when they recognise our license plate and we tell them that we are actually
coming all the way from china they get big eyes and honestly congratulate us on our big achievement - and we deserve it - hah!
